In the past, the most effective way to detect fires in electrical cabinets was by using an aspirating smoke detection system. In this setup, air samples from all protected cabinets are drawn back to a central detection unit through an aspirator and a network of sampling pipes connected to each cabinet. This allows the system to monitor for the presence of smoke inside the cabinets.

Although such a system can detect a fire at a relatively early stage, its limitation is that it cannot identify which specific cabinet is on fire. The user must manually open and inspect each cabinet to locate the source of the smoke.

Imagine a detection system protecting 60 cabinets with a single aspirating smoke detector. When an alarm is triggered, the user is faced with rows of enclosed high-voltage electrical cabinets—and must open and check each one to pinpoint the fire's origin. Meanwhile, the alarm keeps sounding, time is ticking, and the risk of explosion increases. The pressure on the user in this situation is immense.

Now, the innovative CSD Cabinet Smoke Detector from AVA PREVENT offers a compact, space-saving design specifically engineered for single-cabinet aspirating smoke detection.

The CSD integrates an aspirator, high-sensitivity smoke detector, display/control/programming panel, relays, and network interface—all within a miniature unit. It can be installed directly on each cabinet, allowing for precise detection and clear identification of alarm status.

With the CSD, users no longer need to search through multiple cabinets during a dangerous electrical fire. It provides fast, targeted detection, making it the ideal solution for cabinet fire protection.

Design Planning

The CSD Detector can be installed on the top of the cabinet or inside the cabinet.

When the CSD is installed on top of a cabinet, its built-in display directly shows the detection status of the protected cabinet below.

When the CSD is installed inside a cabinet, the display can be detached from the detector and mounted on the cabinet panel to indicate the detector’s status from outside.


Location of the Air Sampling Points
Air sampling points should be placed at the following locations where smoke is likely to accumulate in the event of a cabinet fire, to ensure the earliest possible detection.
 
- In-Cabinet Sampling:When the CSD is installed outside the cabinet, a brass sampling point can be mounted on the top of the cabinet, allowing air samples from inside to be drawn back to the CSD.
When the CSD is installed inside the cabinet, a capillary tube can be mounted on the cabinet ceiling, with the open end of the tube serving as the sampling point.

- Exhaust Fan/Grill Sampling:When an exhaust fan or grill is used for cooling the components inside the cabinet, a sampling point should be installed at the exhaust outlet, as smoke is likely to appear at this location in the event of a fire.

- Compartment/Void Sampling:When a cabinet contains a separate compartment or void with fire risk, a sampling point should be installed in that compartment or void.
